Melancholy Frenzy

Looking out to the horizon,
Watching the sun go down
She reflected on her life so far.
The breeze blowing against her,
The sea washing at her feet
Everything seemed to be a puddle of confusion.
The stillness of the evening sky,
Was creeping into her soul-
And yet, thoughts were ramming on her inside.
Just as the clouds closed in
And hid the sun behind their fluffy contour
She did the same with her emotions.
She found the silence within,
The peace that had left her
Had now once again settled in.

An Afternoon Quite Unlike Others

I would like the draw attention of my fellow readers to the fact that the title only implies the difference of the way my routine afternoons are spent and not necessarily an "out-of-the-world" or remarkable experience. Usually, on free days, my afternoons are spent at home in the confines of my room, on the comfort of my bed, engaged with reading a novel or perhaps even a chat or two with a friend, with light music in the background and cool air blowing in from the windows (or mostly just the ceiling fan).

However, today, was different. It was the first Thursday of the month, which meant, I had a dreaded appointment to keep with the dentist. About a-year-and-a-quarter ago, I decided to get braces, although, everyone including the dentist said it wasn't necessary. Having made my mind up, I went through with it. And so since then, the first Thursday of every month was the slot assigned to meet the doctor. So, if this was my decision, why the dread now, you may ask? Well, as all things, after the initial delight and excitement(??) of wearing braces faded, I began to see the flaw of my choice. It meant I had to go through with this resisting strain put on my teeth no matter what, until the dentist himself was pleased with his work. Last February, I was finally relieved of the braces and quite honestly i felt no different than when the whole process began. I must, however, remind you that the braces never once during the time I had them on, brought me any discomfort or pain. The mouth did feel unusually full, but otherwise everything was fine. So now when I was through with the braces, the doc gives me my retainers and say I have to put them on. And this I did not like one bit. For one, they kept jumping out of place when I spoke and for another it was just pure irritating. And so after one or two days of faithfully wearing them, it reduced to nights only and then eventually I just kept forgetting and the retainers rested in a box on my shelf. A visit to the dentist in the following months caused me some trouble as he reprimanded on my slacking off with the retainer. Not that it made me change; once again, after the initial fire was put out, I went back to not wearing them, until today. As I had to meet the dentist and there was no skipping it. Well, so now I guess you understand why I'd dread this appointment with the dentist.

Today, I woke up and got around by my everyday routine, had breakfast and settled to read the novel I was presently lost in- "The Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet. The morning went by as such, till noon, when mom reminded me of the appointment I had to keep. After lunch, I stole a couple of moments to finish the chapter I was reading as the hero was just making his comeback and defining his territory. Once that was done, I started to get ready for the appointment. Mom had a couple of stuff to buy as well, so she handed me the list and I walked off into the sun hoping the afternoon would skip by as fast as possible.

The weather was lovely. A sunny day, no less. As I trotted away up the street to the dentist's, I saw a familiar face making her way down. She was an elderly woman, maybe in her early fifties, elegant and there was something about the way she carried herself that gave her a touch of aristocracy. I remember seeing her at church on Sundays, and some loose talk about her being into matchmaking and stuff (kind of typical of the women her age around here). As we neared, I smiled acknowledging her, but boy, was I shocked when she addressed me asking of my family. (But then it isn't all that astonishing. If you've seen me once with my family, the height is kind of gonna stick in your head forever). She assumed I was on my way to college, and I should have left it that way, but NO. I had to open my retainer filled mouth to mumble I was on my way to the doc's. She smiled, we walked on our ways. It then struck me as to how stupid I was. Sometimes, I clear real silly things for no reason. But anyway, what's done was done and I walked on.
Approaching the dentist's I saw it was empty, and figured I reached quite early. However, the nurse informed me the doctor would be unavailable today and make it only next month. I thanked her, and inside I let out a sigh of relief. I thought to myself, I had one month to wear the retainers regularly and minimize the possible dosage of scolding.
I, then, took a look at my mom's shopping list and she needed- bananas, bread, snacks for the evening, milk and some band-aid. I figured I'd go to the supermarket that was just less than half a mile up the road I was on. A supermarket would be easy, since I'd get everything I wanted there, but on the other hand if I chose a particular way back home, I'd find small shops on the way to purchase the items on my list. And so, my first stop was at the grocer right next to the dental clinic. I asked him for half a kilo of small bananas and smiled. He showed me two bunches of bananas, one kind of over-ripe and the not-so-ripe, and asked me which I wanted. Since I was no expert in identifying the ripeness, I told him we needed it for tomorrow morning. And so he cut off some from the not-so-ripe bunch and told it'd be fine for tomorrow. I thanked him and asked him how much it cost. He said Rs. 9 only. Now Mom gave two crisp notes of 100 thinking I'd go to the supermarket. So I had no change and handed him a 100 rupee bill. He jokingly said why not give me a 1000 rupee bill and I smiled candidly and replied: "I will, once I start earning". We shared a polite laugh and I thanked him again and went on my way.
A couple of feet from their was a bakery. I stopped by and bought some bread and snacks. So now all I had left was the milk and band-aids. Across the bakery, was a small medical store which would get me my band-aids. Crossing over, I asked for a packet of band-aid but they were out of packets and asked if I would like them loose. I was contemplating it in my head, when the old fellow there translated his question in English. I smiled and answered back in Malayalam I'd have 20 of them. He was still looking at me, and I said "Yes, 20 of them please" in English. He counted the strips and handed it to the lady there. And she mumbled the amount. It wasn't quite clear if she said 50 or 80 as the two sounds kinda similar in Malayalam. So, the old fellow there, proud to show of his English, once again butts in to say "Fifty, five zero". I handed him the 100 rupee bill I had. He smiled and asked putting together his broken English, "You don't have less money?". I didn't understand at once what he meant so he tried again saying "You don't have a smaller currency--uh, note?". And then it hit me, he was asking if I had change. But I smiled apologetically saying I didn't as he handed me my change. I thanked them again and left the place.
Now there was a house nearby on the same route who were dealers of milk. So I went there and rang the bell. An unfamiliar face greeted me as I asked for milk and I found out that the family had moved and they stopped selling milk there. So much for everything on my way home, I thought. Now, I'd have to go all the way to supermarket just to buy the milk. But then it dawned on me that a small detour on the way would get me to a small shop that sells milk. I took the path and walked till I reached that shop which was in my neighborhood itself. I stepped in and asked for milk and guy there asks me back, "Smart or Jersey?". I was flabbergasted. Huh, what did he mean Jersey shore and stuff. So I said, still confused, "Um, no. Milma Milk?". And he laughed at my ignorance and said, "Yeah. There's two kinds. Which do you want?" . At this point the only distinction I knew was the color of the packets and I said that I wanted the red ones. So he nodded, "Yeah, those are Jersey." . Well, I now know that I thought, and paid him for the milk and set back on my way home.

Well, and so these meeting with people an sunny afternoon kind of lightened the day a bit more and was a welcome change from my routine. Coming home, I shared it with my Mom and we had a good laugh about it. That was when she suggested I write it down as an afternoon shopping experience. And so I came here and did just that.

Have a wonderful day!

Cheers,
Maryann

My Class

ECE 2007-2011, VAST

I don’t know how to start this

But, here, my concerns, I dismiss;

For with you guys I spent four years,

And here we are as engineers!

Aiswarya, you’d find with raised eyebrows

With the long-haired beauty, Drisya, by her side;

One without the other, was hardly a sight,

And together they made the perfect pair.

Seated in front of them was lovely Mridula,

Along with her our rep you’d see,

Arathi, with her jittering charm,

And relentless faithfulness to her trade;

This brings me to our dear old Jijesh

Our humble class rep with quirky wits,

Whose immense efforts paid off,

To result in a wondrous tour!

T’was that tour that strengthened bonds

And shone spotlights on many a trends.

The card player, Ginu, at the forefront

Battled his way through many a barrier!

It would be wrong of me to delay

The mention of the Gossip Central

Deepthy being at its core

With her art of retelling stories!

Nithya followed none too back

With animated expressions of her own;

Purnima joined to fit in perfectly

With Seethal Maria right at her side;

Harsha chipped in duly to fulfil her part

The (certain) teacher’s pet, nonetheless!

Ais, Driz and Aaru joined in the titters

And so you’ve met the Gossip Girls!

Moving on, we come to dedicated pupils,

You’d meet Ajith, the walking Wiki,

Shyam, the persistent student,

Libin, the knowledge thirsty scholar,

And Sudha, the punctual perfectionist;

These are but to name a few!

I’m not quite sure where (Deepak) Prathap would fit,

But (Deepak) V.S. was a peculiar pick.

Tit for tat he bonded with K. R.

And Divya & Simi would fall in step.

Delna is a special interest

And with grace her face would glow;

Simple and set in her ways she was

But caught on as quick as a flash.

I now remember our dearest Beebija

Who bid farewell quite too soon;

The “Oppana” for Arts was her masterpiece

That won laurels for the Department.

Arun still lives in our memories

His apt remarks and positive aura

Filled every corner and space of our being

With the freshness of blooming flowers;

My days at the hostel are pretty faded

Although you’ve given me loads to cherish.

Tania, my roomie, we were quite compatible

Aysha and Remya, quite inseparable!

Asha dearest shared her room with them.

Jing-jang Anjing and crazy Rejani

Shared another room together;

Calm composed Sneha camped in yet another.

There are a few name doubles

Anand K.V and Sagar (xgr);

The two are as different as could be,

One tall and charismatic, the other short and artistic.

Aswathy M.A and Aswathy Ajit follow them

Just as before, have their distinctions.

One sweet and naive,

The other sweet and spicy;

We now come to the Deepak duos, Pratap and V.S.

I have no words to allure their persona

A little like them we have the Nithin pair,

One the thinker, the other a performer;

Sarath P.K and Narayan comes next

One plain while the other complex!

And at last we have the Vysak square

One boisterous, the other artistic!

Like pieces of a puzzle set

Are these next four

Deepthy, Seira, Harsha & Shabana-

A gossiper, a superstar, a nerd and a bride!

Another set of bold folks follow

Each with their own style

Amrutha, Manju, Sreeja and Hitha

With Achu, Ammu and Anisha;

A trio that travels together

Whom I’ve had the chance to be with;

Vinny, Aseela and Smruthy

Are truly rare people to mix with.

An audacious bunch now comes along

Prasob, Kiran, Nitheesh and Ragesh.

Along with them sometimes you’d find,

Our young scholar, LibinKumar.

A trait to admire and one so rare

Rivin acquires and carries it with pride.

No matter what the sticky situation

He always comes out in a refined manner.

Sonu is one you cannot miss

Friendly, helpful and a bag full of surprise;

Ajeesh comes off as a silent person

Dig a little deeper, and you’ll find the fun.

Here now I cite two specific people,

Who requires mention 'cause of their guest appearance;

Nirmal and Likhanov were my peers

For oh-so-many days I can count on my fingers!

There is this corner in my class

In the far left side of the room

Its occupants are an eccentric lot

Ones you cannot forget even by a long shot.

I start with Mido, the fashion guru

Friends say, he would've been a model, if it were for the height.

His partner in crime, Lithin K.U

My lab batch mate from 1st year that too!

Don, I’d say, is quite the Casanova

I daresay you all agree with me.

Dingu, my brother, you’d know him as Divish

A childlike dear of the block;

Standing tall, you’d see him there

With a lost expression defining his face

The bearer of this portrait is Rahul

And mostly, we’d have silly arguments.

Another tall figure with dashing looks

And might I add- a unique name

Is Datto Ram T.R., the sculptured prince

Whose charisma fades at the slightest movement!

A silent and strong character resides

In Sarath P. Kumar, or, to me, he's Cakes.

He spreads cheer, helps around and yet remains mysterious

With a window wedged slightly into the unknown;

And now I introduce an integral person

Who may not always be at this corner

Yet his guise is quite alluring

This is Vishnu, the quintessential entertainer.

The last few I saved for they are my closest

I give you Paru, my first ever bench mate.

Like a lottery I attained their company

Rajitha, Meghana and Anjali,

Time flew when I was with you.

Parvathy, in many ways we're both alike and yet so different,

Meghana, cutie pie, my sole confidant during labs,

Rajitha, who always found that perfect balance,

Between friends and fun and studies.

And last but not the least, let's not forget

Dearest Anjali, with her trade mark smile

And the largest ever accessory collection I’ve seen.

Cheers to you all, my classmates

Without whom my college life would've been a void.

My only desire for years from now

Is that we all bond with the same love.

Wondering Ahead...

I long to see

How we'll turn out to be?

Years from now,

Wedding bells and vows-

Will we remember each other?

And those days,

When foes turned friends,

And friends, lovers!

No matter how much time flies by,

I wish to keep you near by.

And the fond memories we've shared

Like a pocket mirror of joy,

Reflecting the happiness in me.

Controversial Mix

Sweat trickled down her brow

Tears welled up and held within

Random thoughts cluttered her mind

Elegant, as she held herself-

Nowhere could she find peace

Good friends all around her

That supported her with all they did

Happiness was all that they saw in her.

What went around inside her soul?

Invisible to the outside world

Try as she might to express, but-

Hope and joy was all she showed

Interacting like a butterfly, she fluttered

Not a moment of weakness displayed.

Mystery hung all about her,

Everlasting and smiling at all.

When all is said and done.

In the anticipation of any one particular important event, people generally tend to have their heart-beats raise, confusion increase and have a somewhat inward blast of questions. But that's just putting it lightly. Human emotions can take such a wicked-wild ride when adrenaline runs loose.

This last one week, I went through a series of mixed emotions that varied from determination to confusion to utter blankness to a very agitated state to complete saturation and acceptance of whatever was going around me. Yet through it all, there was that divine peace resting in my heart. During every one of those moments I knew in the deepest of my heart that I'd get through it. And now when all is said and done, I've got by just as well and I couldn't have done any of it without the grace and mercy of the Lord my God.

A phase in life...

He had chanced to cross her path once again; just like he had years ago, in that school corridor. They had been the best of friends through out their schooling and then even kept in touch after they'd pursued their different interests. He had become a celebrity and somehow his busy schedule widened the gap between them. Unintentionally, he had stopped replying to her messages.The memory of her was but another one in the cluttered past. Until today, when he saw her again. Now, he stood there in the pouring rain. No amount of persuasion would make him move from her side. He held her tight in his arms; not wanting to let her go. In a moment all this would be over, he told himself. The ambulance would come, take her to the hospital, and the doctors would treat her wounds and she would get better. But somewhere in his mind, a nagging thought held him. What if she doesn't pull through? What if the ambulance doesn't make it in time? In all his life, this was the first time he had to take control of a tense situation. It had happened very suddenly. They had been walking back home after a wonderful dinner. She had asked him to go down this street because it was quieter and the moonlight shone beautifully down the stony path. Then all of a sudden it had begun to rain and the street had become dark. He wanted to take the shelter of a nearby store. She didnt want to. She preferred to walk in the rain. She said it reminded her of the old times: when they walked back from school in the rain, singing and dancing merrily. Just as they were about turn around the corner to the lane that reached up to her apartment, they heard gunshots being fired. On an impulse they both turned around to see what was happening. Two masked men were getting into their black sedan, which was speeding towards them. He tried to pull her aside to safety but she seemed to be in a trance and was rooted to the ground. Her face didn't show fear. She had a very calm and thoughtful expression. The blaring horn and his pleading voice to move from the way seemed to her as from a different sphere. In that last second before she was hit she had turned to look at him; her eyes sparkled and she had the smile of an angel. Now, even as she lay in his arms, unconscious and bleeding, she seemed to be at perfect peace. A little red book had fallen out of her purse from the impact of the crash. It was opened to the page that read:
I loved you when you were with her, but knew better than to breathe a word. I loved you when you left her for all the rumors you'd heard. I loved you when you went running back, and never second-guessed your decision. I loved you when she left you, tears clouding your vision. I loved you with your broken heart and scars I couldn't mend. I still loved you, but I never wished to hate you more than when you said "I'm glad we're friends."

Another year end..

With the moon still shining
In the perfect clear sky,
Yet another year
Bids farewell to all ye here.

With hours left for the beginning of the new year, I withdrew to myself (as best as i could), in the quiet of my room (with my brother interrupting the peace now and then), and thought about the past one year. Looking back, the few resolutions that I did take at the beginning of this year is somewhat justified today. Resolutions are generally not my thing (as I like to keep all options open) but it's nice to have an idea of what you want to stick on to in the coming year. Looking at it from that angle, 2010 could be the year to make some changes around here.

2009 turned out to be pretty okay. There were a few ups and downs, but mostly it was the middles. I don't feel like time has run off and we've reached the year end in the blink of an eye. Yes, it did drag quite a bit. Mostly around the months of August and September all those 24 hours, in each of those 61 days, went without missing a single stroke of the clock. Then, of course, there were those fast months like May and November and maybe a week or two from October and December combined. College side of the year was kinda fun - mainly s5. s4 dragged too much. That took away the essence of the semester totally. The tournaments, meetings, conferences, and the tech fests were all the best parts of the year. Tried some new stuff this year. Even though I was pushed into it, I had fun and totally rocked.

Hoping all the very best for 2010 and wishing the same for each and every one of you.

God Bless. Happy New Year :)

Cross roads...????

L
ying down, thinking
Of what this life holds for her
Visions of their good times,
Enveloped her in warmth;

Mischief twinkled in her eyes, and
Excitement flowed through her veins.

Wandering to the depths of her world
Intrigued by her own thoughts,
To conquer the desires of her heart-
Heavens above, strengthen her!

Patience demands her attention
Alas, she has no care
So long has been her wait,
So deep has been her pain.
Inspired, I stand alongside her, to
Overcome all the hurdles, and
Near our independent destiny.

W-E-I-R-D

Why is it that sometimes you know you're totally in your element, but you can't feel it? The last couple of weeks have been sort of like this. One moment, I knew what I felt, the next I was lost. Although this shouldn't strike me as new, I feel quite disconnected. And it doesn't keep me at ease either. I'm not even sure if what I'm blogging right now has a flow or not. Sort of like my system just hung up. Crashed? Am I me anymore? Friends would say yes. They would pat me on the back on say "Mary!! You've always been like this! Maybe it just struck you now." In which case I wonder, who was I all these years. A lot of thoughts are swimming around in my head now. This reminds me of something a friend said long long back..During one of my lost-in-thoughts moment, he had seemingly asked me something and I obviously didn't answer. That day was the first time someone told me to be careful of the thoughts that go around inside the head. I remember the scene, the setting, his voice, what I wore, my expression so clearly as though it happened just now. Funny things have been happening lately. I feel something and then I don't and then I feel completely blank and then it keeps going on to something else. I guess I wasn't the only one wandering around during the last couple of weeks..my mind has been doing a bit of travelling of its own.
I still don't feel as though any of this makes sense..and moreover its almost like repeating the idea throughout..Maybe I'll blog later when I'm in the mood.

The feeling of definiteness..

Being a generally don't-carish person, I never really followed an organised, routine, well defined life style. To me, it was like being the most boring person in the world. I believed more in the spontaneity and the thrills of the moment. My years in this place, however boring and irritating as it was (and remains to be), has helped me find a new angle in myself. Being surrounded by totally narrow-minded and in-the-box people, has made me feel so lucky as to have felt what its like living outside the box. But nowadays, I wonder if the influence is getting on to me. Three years in one place is good enough time to affect any one's life. I think maybe now I am more of a border person. Is that a good thing? I have no idea. But it could be the balance that might help me survive here. Every situation in nature requires a balance, an equilibrium, I might say, if I were to prefer technical terms.

I owe it to a few people over here and all of my friends from school days that still help me maintain my out-of-the box self, while the majority of the remainder here, forces me to restrict my thoughts and totally wacky, crazy, insane, wild behaviour and style. This balance, I must say, is a different experience. And not many people can stay in this balance. Most people I've seen, including people I've known all my life, either just go on with the system here (which really bothers me) or just find it totally hard to adapt (I totally understand what they've been through). The friends from here who've helped, they are truly wonderful. To have been living in this atmosphere for all their life and being able to see out-of-the-box, that's amazing. Well, it might not be the impossible, nothing really is anymore, is it? In this century where we've brought everything to our fingertips, anything is possible. But in either case, hats off to them for being the way they are.

I guess what I'm really trying to say is despite the shortcoming of this place and its people, and also the fact that I was a totally impossible character, I want to thank all of you for helping me see the line of definiteness in my life. But since its me, obviously that line would never be a straight one, lol. Its not crooked either, though. Its more of a curve, I guess. Anyway, that's my life and I love you guys for being you!

Cheers,
Maryann..

It hurts,
To see everything
Yet not feel it.
It kills,
To know that I can
Yet be restricted.
The struggle is hard,
Yet so easy.
I want to remain calm,
Yet scream out loud.

Is the world conspiring?
Am I losing out?
But no, I know this for sure
I’m not crazy
My reality is just different:
“The skies are blue
The birds sing sweetly
Friends all around-close and dear
Living the life on my own
Being independent”

It is a warm feeling,
To know you can and be there
To reach out and feel what want to
To wish for and make it happen.
I promise myself this,
I will get there
One day, for sure;
To live the life I dreamt.

The Independence Day

Step outside and look around you today. Do you see little Indian flags all around the place? Do you see decorations in the colours of our national flag? Do you see people talking of the great freedom fighters? Do you see documentaries of India's great fight for freedom? Do you see people celebrating their country's freedom? Do you see politicians honouring the people who led India through her struggle? Do you hear them talking of the great deeds that were done and how we must strive hard to work our way through all trying and tough times? And all this only on August 15? What happens to all these emotions after the stroke of midnight on the August 15? Do they just disappear? Does it suddenly die inside the people?

I am reminded of excerpt from the book "India Past & Present" by Prakash Chander.

Early in 1947, Mahatma Gandhi met Lord Bevin, the personal emissary of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, in Delhi. Bevin is reported to have told the great man, '18 languages, 500 dialects, some 30 religions, a million Gods and Goddesses, 300 million individuals, an infinity of castes and sub castes and population (that is) practically illiterate and half of which are beggars or thieves...Good luck, sir! Such a nation is ungovernable! It'd take you centuries to get anywhere!'. Gandhiji wrapped his large, white shawl a little more closely around him, and modestly replied, 'India has an eternity before her..'

It may definitely not be an eternity since then but 62 long years have passed. Where does India lie today? What is the attitude of the Indians today? Back in 1947, when India did attain her freedom from tyrannous British Raj, the entire country stood together as one and rejoiced and basked in all its rich diverse glory. If all this was attained under the leadership of one simple and generous man, the Mahatma, who is still revered in our hearts, how is it that still more than half of our population does not abide by the principles set forth by him. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it like throwing dirt on the person when we say that we respect and honour him and not follow/at least try to follow his example? Even while reaching out to people using documentaries and movies, are those feeling being practised in everyday life? All this colour and euphoria on this particular day alone is not going to get India to reach heights. The feeling of independence and the love for our country should be felt through every second of every single day. The want for our country to reach the top and to maintain its position there, we must all join hands together. We are still clinging on to the fact that India has developed a lot since her freedom. But is that enough? Aren't we, as the current generation, responsible for its further development? India may have been the fastest developing country since 1947, but she still hasn't joined the list of developed countries. With the current potential of our country's youth, and a change in the attitudes of the general population of Indians all over, India can definitely leave her mark forever.

I end this note hoping that each of us will come together and encourage one another to help in the progress of our country in the international level. Let this emotion that we share on every Independence day be with us through everyday so that the tricolour flag of our nation will fly high forever and ever more...

Reminiscing...

Kathleen had a lot going on in her mind. In a couple of months she would end her teen years. It would finally be a past phase. She thought back to the eve of her 13th birthday. The little child inside of her had fancied it to be something huge. Thirteen. The start of teenage life. The years of great excitement and fun. She had laid awake well past into midnight thinking of all the wonderful things that would happen. In her mind she drew up colourful images of what her life would be. She felt it was an important phase of her life. She imagined of all the new friends, new grades, new places, new attitudes and new changes that would happen. Finally after she fell asleep, she dreamt dreams that were far too pleasant. It was to be the start of the most perfect and important phase of her life. During this new year, she was excited at the slightest of changes that took place. She twittered and fluttered around like a little butterfly. After the initial excitement died away, she came to realise that being a teenager was no fairy-tale like experience. It had its thrills and disappointments. It was just another year in your life where you could learn new things and mould yourself to being a responsible and caring adult. During these years, she learned a lot about trust, love and friendship. Apart from her academics, she was also active in the sports field and other extra curricular activities.

Now, looking back, she realised that every single person that she had come across had taught her a valuable lesson however small it maybe. During these last few months of her teenage, she realised that these years were the years that actually developed the person inside of you. Till the age of 10 or 11, most things we do are because of our inquistive nature and curiosity of the unfamiliar surroundings. By the age of 13, we come around to understanding most things around us. By 17, we "think" we are completely ready to handle life on our own and finally when we turn 19 years old, we realise and understand what those advices we received actually meant. This is when it dawns upon us that we have matured into grown ups. Kathleen felt she was treading her feet along this path now. Although her teen years didn't turn out exactly as she had imagined it to be, she knows she has come a long way from being that wishful little child on the bed of her thirteenth birthday.

And as the "twenties" call out to her, she keeps reflecting on her life so far...

Dreams..

A very dear friend once told me,

"Keep your dreams in your pocket not your head...so you can take it out when the time appears.."

Not my best day

this really pathetic thing happened at class..it disturbed be soo much i was writing in the middle of a usually very interesting hour..

T'was a day, dark and cloudy
An unpleasant aura spread.
No matter what I thought or did,
Could make my day better than the dead.
Alas! If only the hidden rainbow
Would come out and shine only for me
And then a life without pain
'Tis all but a foolish dream!

One crazy night

one crazy night i was up till 3 a.m. writing this...! check it out...

Mysterious ways of life

The eerie tune of nature

Dancing flames with a mischievous grin

A lonesome silhouette in the desert,

Seeking shelter from the harsh weather,

Came across an unusual sight

Two doves on an olive branch

Symbols of peace and love

And as it spread hope

To our melancholy wanderer

The sun went down and darkness crept in.

A night so dark, so silent & treacherous

Distant cries of a restless flock

No one to comfort, no one to guide

All was consumed by the dull sky

And the stench of fear hung in the air

Enveloped by darkness and strange sounds,

The lonesome silhouette fell to its knees

With a silent prayer to the God above.

Then suddenly, the earth shook

With all its might

And the sky began to pour down.

The floor around the wanderer

Gave way for something beneath

And the music from a qin

Echoed through the night.

Creatures of unknown origins and size

Could be felt all around

Crawling, slithering and creeping about.

This was a night, never to be forgotten

An event to be read and feared in future

The lonesome person on this deserted land

Could take no more and lost all faith

As he felt the beast moving toward him

Inhaling deeply

The wanderer collapsed

And all was silent and still

No sound was heard

But the beast still moved on the earth

Spreading fear and doubt all through

And suddenly- a flash!

A flash of lightening,

Followed by the sound of a trumpet

‘Behold he comes!

Riding on the clouds

Shining like the sun’

The beast hid from the light

But its radiance was so intense

That it was seven times’ the sun

And before its glamour

All that was evil blew into smithereens

And from the light walked a man

- The Savior

He knelt beside our dear wanderer,

Restored his soul

And all was well.
